Default What now?

Hello everyone. I picked up Guild Wars the other day, since I've grown tired of World of Warcraft. I love the fact that it's free, and I really enjoy the gameplay. I tried a few different characters out and decided I liked a N/W so far. Most of my points are going in Blood Magic and Sword with a little bit in tactics and soul reaping. I don't know how effective this will actually be, but so far it's doing really well for me.

Anyways, my character is level 7, I haven't had any problem keeping her weapons and armor up, but I've finally hit a wall. I'm in Ascalon post-searing, and I've completed a bunch of the first quests I recieved. Now there doesn't seem to be anything else. It's not really the quests that concern me though, it's skills. Where do I start when trying to get more necro and warrior skills? Yes, I've looked at all of the skill location charts, but I have no idea where the places are, what level I need to be to get there, what order I should seek them in.

A little guidance would go a long way.

Thanks in advance.

so much to type.......

first of all, skim through the various articles on this site.

http://www.guildwiki.org/wiki/Main_Page is also good.

if you have black or silver dyes, I will buy them for 20 gold each.

what you need to do is check your log and complete all the quests.
this will tend to lead you to new areas and new quests which offer skill rewards.
I'm lvl 15 and have only bought 2 skills so far from trainers.
talk to everybody w/the green exclamation point over their head and do their quest.

n/w, eh?
you are like my bizarro.

what's your skillbar like?

get lost noob... he's asking for help and u try to scam him? jeezz...

to the OP...

just play the game... as u advance thru the quests u will acquire more and more skills for both ur primary and secondary profession...

once u reach the Crystal Desert u will be able to start capping Elites which are "advanced skills"

there is also a list of all Skill Trainers here : http://www.guildwarsguru.com/skill-trainers-id238.php ... be advised tho... the more skills u buy the more expensive they get (caps at 1Kgold) ... so i recommend only buying skills when u absolutely need them

Well, since I don't have many skills yet, I'm just working with what they gave me. I chose swords because well, I like swords, and the initial bleed skill is nice. I'm using a shield rather than a caster type off hand item to reduce damage taken, since I'm not really a warrior, and I do get beat on in melee.

Right now I'm using:

Gash
Sever Artery
Blood Renewal
Vampiric Gaze
Vampiric Touch
Life Siphon
Healing Signet
For Great Justice

I'd like to replace those last two skills, because I almost never need to use them. I just haven't found suitable replacements yet. With all the Blood Magic, I don't die unless I get in way over my head, and I think I'm doing good damage (Better than the other characters I've tried).

It's ok about the dye. I'm not an idiot, I've played other MMORPGs before, I already saw that the trader will give me 600 gold for silver dye. I like to try to figure some of the economy out for myself before I go selling stuff to just anyone, because I know how these games can be. So hopefully, I can take care of myself when it comes to money scams.

do you use the henchies or just go solo?

right now, I don't think the combat's all that tough --- you'll probably get more of a challenge from the charr outside of pike's whatever --- have you been there?

just from memory, although I should probably look it up, I think you might head over there when you complete that north wall primary quest.

ps

I will sell you henchmen for 100 gold each.

A common problem. You are doing side-quests rather than the main storyline missions. I was stuck like this for a day or two as well. What you need to do is open up your map and make your way to the Great Northern Wall (should be immediately northeast of Ascalon City). Once there, form a party and enter the mission. When you complete the mission you will progress in the game.

In general, use the Quest Log (keypress "L") to see what you need to do. As fallot said, there are side quests - little things to do just for rewards and Xp, and the mission quests - for Xp and advance the main story. The mission quests appear at the top of the Quest Log. Within the mission quests there are also hidden bonus secondary missions for extra Xp.

At mission staging areas, join a team or form your own. You can form your own team with other players, or with henchmen or with a mix. Once you have a team then click the 'Enter Mission' button on the party window and away you go. You can tell that you're in a mission start point as other players will have their profession and level displayed above them. Team leaders will indicate the size of their current party. (This took me a while to realise when I stumbled into Fort Ranik on a map exploring walkabout, I was like "wtf is going here?" )

[ADDED]
I think there are PvP arenas dotted around places if you fancy fighting other players. Not too sure as I haven't come across an arena yet.

Basically, thats what is called the primary quest. If you feel you are lost, follow the primary quest. If you do not have a primary quest, go check your map and look for mission posts without swords (which means you did not yet complete that mission). If you do not have empty mission posts, check the towns and outposts for quests. Alternatively, look at different fora like this or at guildwarswiki.

Good lulck!
